Easter Time Week IV White

First Reading : Acts 13, 44-52

Paul and Barnabas preach to the pagans

13:44 The next sabbath almost the whole town assembled to hear the word of God.

13:45 When they saw the crowds, the Jews, prompted by jealousy, used blasphemies and contradicted everything Paul said.

13:46 Then Paul and Barnabas spoke out boldly. ‘We had to proclaim the word of God to you first, but since you have rejected it, since you do not think yourselves worthy of eternal life, we must turn to the pagans.

13:47 For this is what the Lord commanded us to do when he said: I have made you a light for the nations, so that my salvation may reach the ends of the earth.'[*f]

13:48 It made the pagans very happy to hear this and they thanked the Lord for his message; all who were destined for eternal life became believers.

13:49 Thus the word of the Lord spread through the whole countryside.

13:50 But the Jews worked upon some of the devout women of the upper classes and the leading men of the city and persuaded them to turn against Paul and Barnabas and expel them from their territory.

13:51 So they shook the dust from their feet in defiance and went off to Iconium;

13:52 but the disciples were filled with joy and the Holy Spirit.

Psalm : Ps 98 (97)

R// All the ends of the earth have seen the salvation of our God.

Psalm

98:1 Sing Yahweh a new song for he has performed marvels, his own right hand, his holy arm, gives him the power to save.

98:2 Yahweh has displayed his power; has revealed his righteousness to the nations,

98:3 mindful of his love and faithfulness to the House of Israel. The most distant parts of the earth have seen the saving power of our God.

98:4 Acclaim Yahweh, all the earth, burst into shouts of joy!

98:5 Sing to Yahweh, sing to the music of harps, and to the sound of many instruments;

98:6 to the sound of trumpet and horn acclaim Yahweh the King!

98:7 Let the sea thunder and all that it holds, and the world, with all who live in it;

98:8 let all the rivers clap their hands and the mountains shout for joy,

98:9 at the presence of Yahweh, for he comes to judge the earth, to judge the world with righteousness and the nations with strict justice.

Gospel : Jn 14, 7-14

14:7 If you know me, you know my Father too. From this moment you know him and have seen him.’

14:8 Philip said, ‘Lord, let us see the Father and then we shall be satisfied’.

14:9 ‘Have I been with you all this time, Philip,’ said Jesus to him ‘and you still do not know me? ‘To have seen me is to have seen the, Father, so how can you say, “Let us see the Father”?

14:10 Do you not believe that I am in the Father and the Father is in me? The words I say to you I do not speak as from myself: it is the Father, living in me, who is doing this work.

14:11 You must believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; believe it on the evidence of this work, if for no other reason.

14:12 I tell you most solemnly, whoever believes in me will perform the same works as I do myself, he will perform even greater works, because I am going to the Father.

14:13 Whatever you ask for in my name I will do, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son.

14:14 If you ask for anything in my name, I will do it.

Evening Mass of the Fifth Sunday of Easter

Easter Time Week V White

First Reading : Acts 6, 1-7

The institution of the Seven

6:1 About this time, when the number of disciples was increasing, the Hellenists made a complaint against the Hebrews:[*a] in the daily distribution their own widows were being overlooked.

6:2 So the Twelve called a full meeting of the disciples and addressed them, ‘It would not be right for us to neglect the word of God so as to give out food;

6:3 you, brothers, must select from among yourselves seven men of good reputation, filled with the Spirit and with wisdom; we will hand over this duty to them,

6:4 and continue to devote ourselves to prayer and to the service of the word’.

6:5 The whole assembly approved of this proposal and elected Stephen, a man full of faith and of the Holy Spirit, together with Philip, Prochorus, Nicanor, Timon, Parmenas, and Nicolaus of Antioch, a convert to Judaism.

6:6 They presented these to the apostles, who prayed and laid their hands on them.[*b]

6:7 The word of the Lord continued to spread: the number of disciples in Jerusalem was greatly increased, and a large group of priests made their submission to the faith.

Psalm : Ps 33 (32)

R// May your mercy, Lord, come upon us, as we place our trust in you.

Hymn to Providence

33:1 Shout for joy to Yahweh, all virtuous men, praise comes well from upright hearts;

33:2 give thanks to Yahweh on the lyre, play to him on the ten-string harp;

33:3 sing a new song in his honour, play with all your skill as you acclaim[*a] him!

33:4 The word of Yahweh is integrity itself, all he does is done faithfully;

33:5 he loves virtue and justice, Yahweh’s love fills the earth.

33:6 By the word of Yahweh the heavens were made, their whole array by the breath of his mouth;

33:7 he collects the ocean waters as though in a wineskin, he stores the deeps in cellars.

33:8 Let the whole world fear Yahweh, let all who live on earth revere him!

33:9 He spoke, and it was created; he commanded, and there it stood.

33:10 Yahweh thwarts the plans of nations, frustrates the intentions of peoples;

33:11 but Yahweh’s plans hold good for ever, the intentions of his heart from age to age.

33:12 Happy the nation whose God is Yahweh, the people he has chosen for his heritage.

33:13 Yahweh looks down from heaven, he sees the whole human race;

33:14 from where he sits he watches all who live on the earth,

33:15 he who moulds every heart and takes note of all men do.

33:16 A large army will not keep a king safe, nor does the hero escape by his great strength;

33:17 it is delusion to rely on the horse for safety, for all its power, it cannot save.

33:18 But see how the eye of Yahweh is on those who fear him, on those who rely on his love,

33:19 to rescue their souls from death and keep them alive in famine.

33:20 Our soul awaits Yahweh, he is our help and shield;

33:21 our hearts rejoice in him, we trust in his holy name.

33:22 Yahweh, let your love rest on us as our hope has rested in you.

Gospel : Jn 14, 1-12

14:1 ‘Do not let your hearts be troubled. Trust in God still, and trust in me.

14:2 There are many rooms in my Father’s house; if there were not, I should have told you. I am going now to prepare a place for you,

14:3 and after I have gone and prepared you a place, I shall return to take you with me; so that where I am you may be too.

14:4 You know the way to the place where I am going.’

14:5 Thomas said, ‘Lord, we do not know where you are going, so how can we know the way?’

14:6 Jesus said: ‘I am the Way, the Truth and the Life. No one can come to the Father except through me.
