Psalm : Ps 63 (62)

R// My soul is thirsting for you, Lord my God.

When he was in the wilderness of Judah

63:1 God, you are my God, I am seeking you, my soul is thirsting for you, my flesh is longing for you, a land parched, weary and waterless;

63:2 I long to gaze on you in the Sanctuary, and to see your power and glory.

63:3 Your love is better than life itself, my lips will recite your praise;

63:4 all my life I will bless you, in your name lift up my hands;

63:5 my soul will feast most richly, on my lips a song of joy and, in my mouth, praise.

63:6 On my bed I think of you, I meditate on you all night long,

63:7 for you have always helped me. I sing for joy in the shadow of your wings;

63:8 my soul clings close to you, your right hand supports me.

63:9 But may those now hounding me to death go down to the earth below,

63:10 consigned to the edge of the sword, and left as food for jackals.

63:11 Then will the king rejoice in God, and all who swear by him be able to boast once these lying mouths are silenced.

Gospel : Mk 11, 27-33

The authority of Jesus is questioned

11:27 They came to Jerusalem again, and as Jesus was walking in the Temple, the chief priests and the scribes and the elders came to him,

11:28 and they said to him, ‘What authority have you for acting like this? Or who gave you authority to do these things?’

11:29 Jesus said to them, ‘I will ask you a question, only one; answer me and I will tell you my authority for acting like this.

11:30 John’s baptism: did it come from heaven, or from man? Answer me that.’

11:31 And they argued it out this way among themselves: ‘If we say from heaven, he will say, “Then why did you refuse to believe him?”

11:32 But dare we say from man?’ – they had the people to fear, for everyone held that John was a real prophet.

11:33 So their reply to Jesus was, ‘We do not know’. And Jesus said to them, ‘Nor will I tell you my authority for acting like this’.

Evening Mass of the Solemnity of the Most Holy Trinity

Ordinary Time Week IX White

First Reading : Ex 34, 4b-6. 8-9

34:4 And so Moses cut two tablets of stone like the first and, with the two tablets of stone in his hands, he went up the mountain of Sinai in the early morning as Yahweh had commanded him.

34:5 And Yahweh descended in the form of a cloud, and Moses stood with him there.

He called on the name of Yahweh.

34:6 Yahweh passed before him and proclaimed, ‘Yahweh, Yahweh, a God of tenderness and compassion, slow to anger, rich in kindness and faithfulness;

34:8 And Moses bowed down to the ground at once and worshipped.

34:9 ‘If I have indeed won your favour, Lord,’ he said ‘let my Lord come with us, I beg. True, they are a headstrong people, but forgive us our faults and our sins, and adopt us as your heritage.’

3:52 ‘May you be blessed, Lord, God of our ancestors, be praised and extolled for ever. Blessed be your glorious and holy name, praised and extolled for ever.

3:53 May you be blessed in the Temple of your sacred glory, exalted and glorified above all else for ever:

3:54 blessed on the throne of your kingdom, praised and exalted above all else for ever.

3:55 Blessed, you fathomer of the great depths, enthroned on the cherubs, praised and glorified above all else for ever;

3:56 blessed in the vault of heaven, exalted and glorified above all else for ever.

Second Reading : 2 Cor 13, 11-13

13:11 In the meantime, brothers, we wish you happiness; try to grow perfect; help one another. Be united; live in peace, and the God of love and peace will be with you.

13:12 Greet one another with the holy kiss. All the saints send you greetings.

13:13 The grace of the Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with you all.

Gospel : Jn 3, 16-18

3:16 Yes, God loved the world so much that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in him may not be lost but may have eternal life.

3:17 For God sent his Son into the world not to condemn the world, but so that through him the world might be saved.

3:18 No one who believes in him will be condemned; but whoever refuses to believe is condemned already, because he has refused to believe in the name of God’s only Son.
