TUESDAY OF THE FIFTEENTH WEEK IN ORDINARY TIME or SAINT CAMILLUS DE LELLIS
First Reading : Isa 7, 1-9
The first warning to Ahaz
7:1 In the reign of Ahaz son of Jotham, son of Uzziah, king of Judah, Razon the king of Aram went up against Jerusalem with Pekah son of Remaliah, king of Israel, to lay siege to it; but he was unable to capture it.
7:2 The news was brought to the House of David. ‘Aram’ they said ‘has reached Ephraim.’ Then the heart of the king and the hearts of the people shuddered as the trees of the forest shudder in front of the wind.
7:3 Yahweh said to Isaiah, ‘Go with your son Shear-jashub,[*a] and meet Ahaz at the end of the conduit of the upper pool on the Fuller’s Field road,
7:4 and say to him: “Pay attention, keep calm, have no fear, do not let your heart sink because of these two smouldering stumps of firebrands,[*b]
7:5 or because Aram, Ephraim and the son of Remaliah have plotted to ruin you, and have said:
7:6 Let us invade Judah and terrorise it and seize it for ourselves, and set up a king there, the son of Tabeel.
7:7 The Lord Yahweh says this: It shall not come true; it shall not be.
Psalm : Ps 47
R. God has founded his city forever.
Psalm
47:1 Clap your hands, all you peoples, acclaim God with shouts of joy;
47:2 for Yahweh, the Most High, is to be dreaded, the Great King of the whole world.
47:3 He brings the peoples under our dominion, he puts the nations under our feet;
47:4 for us he chooses our heritage – the pride of Jacob, whom he loved.
47:5 God rises to shouts of acclamation, Yahweh rises to a blast of trumpets,
47:6 let the music sound for our God, let it sound, let the music sound for our King, let it sound!
47:7 God is king of the whole world: play your best in his honour!
47:8 God is king of the nations, he reigns on his holy throne.
47:9 The leaders of the nations rally to the people of the God of Abraham. Every shield in the world belongs to God. He reigns supreme.
Gospel : Mt 11, 20-24
Lament over the lake-towns
11:20 Then he began to reproach the towns in which most of his miracles had been worked, because they refused to repent.
11:21 ‘Alas for you, Chorazin! Alas for you, Bethsaida! For if the miracles done in you had been done in Tyre and Sidon, they would have repented long ago in sackcloth and ashes.
11:22 And still, I tell you that it will not go as hard on Judgement day with Tyre and Sidon as with you.
11:23 And as for you, Capernaum, did you want to be exalted as high as heaven? You shall be thrown down to hell.[*e] For if the miracles done in you had been done in Sodom, it would have been standing yet.
11:24 And still, I tell you that it will not go as hard with the land of Sodom on Judgement day as with you.’
